The Royal Wedding Hats

I didn’t stay up late or get up early for the royal wedding, since I figured it would be replaying all day (which, it already has).  So far my favorite part has been the amazing hats that some of the stylish guests wore!  Especially the ones designed by Philip Treacy for Prince William’s stylish cousins.

Happy 37th Anniversary to my lovely, amazing parents!

Alexander McQueen at the Met

I absolutely can not wait to see Savage Beauty, the new Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Met.

Opening May 2nd and running through July 1st, it is a retrospective of more than two decades of McQueen’s work.  It will include pieces from his MA graduate collection from Central St Martins College of Art, couture pieces from his years as Givenchy’s creative director, as well as pieces from his namesake collection up to his final one, which was shown posthumously in Paris just a few weeks after his passing.

Yale is also printing what looks to be an amazing book based on the exhibit.

Baby Eagle Update: 1 Born, 2 to Go!

Man, I have been seriously watching this livesteam like a damn soap opera!  1 baby eagle was born this morning and is just about the cutest thing ever..  2 more to go today or tomorrow!

Here are some screen captures I took when Mama eagle was letting the little one stretch:

Iowa Baby Eagles About to Hatch!

This is pretty amazing!  Three baby bald eagles in Iowa are about to hatch (due today!), live on the web. The Raptor Resource Project in Iowa has set up two cameras perched 80 feet high in a cottonwood tree where the mother eagle has her nest.

I am absolutely glued to this video!!

(thanks to my sis-in-law for the heads up)

Satellite Images of Japan Disaster

It is unbelievably sad about Japan.  These before & after satellite photos break my heart.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone there.

Also, my sister-in-law posted this terrifying, 1st person video of the Tsunami hitting.  It starts off slow, but will shortly make the hair on your neck stand up..

My Favorite Books: Part V

Well here’s another another one that wasn’t published last year (decided just to  take the 2010 out of the title from now on), but as I acquired it recently, I’m adding it to the list.

When I was about 8, a TV advertisement used to run for a local “themed room” motel that was located nearby.  They boasted having a jungle room, a Queen of Hearts palace (w/ heart-shaped tub), a caveman cave, and even a knight’s castle.  After seeing it a couple of times, I begged my mom to let me have my upcoming birthday party there, unable to comprehend that it was for ADULTS ONLY.  Luckily my mom sort of ignored the request and suggested that I have a sleepover at the house instead.

Anyway, when I saw this book, Love Hotels: The Hidden Fantasy Rooms of Japan, I was obsessed.  Alien Abduction Play Room?  Check.   Hello Kitty S&M Room? Check.  Subway Car Room? Check.  They even have a Gulliver’s Travels Room with some sort of creepy legged snowman.  Amazingly strange.

Handmade Holiday

I hope the rest of you aren’t as behind on holiday shopping as I am.  Every year I say that I’m going to start in October, but that never seems to happen.

Anyway, I just wanted to remind anyone who may be interested in ordering drawings or prints from my Etsy shop, that it’s best to order by next Friday, December 17th, to receive them by Christmas.  Happy shopping!

Talking Tree

The Talking Tree is a project created by the Belgian magazine EOS, which decided to give a digital voice to a single tree.  They attached a fine dust meter, ozone meter, light meter, weather station, webcam and microphone to a single, 100-year-old tree located on the outskirts of Brussels.

It is continually monitored across these dimensions and feeds the information to digital tools like YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook. I don’t really consider myself a treehugger, but I love this tree!

ELLE Girl Korea (teenage Kiersten screams, ‘OMG!’)

I was so honored to be contacted by ELLE Girl Korea for a feature in their December issue.  I answered a few questions for them, but I’m not sure what they ended up using, since reading a second language hasn’t ever been my strong point.  :)  It still makes my inner teenager squeal with joy though.

And I have to say, it’s been a while since I picked up a teen fashion magazine, but boy,  have things sure upgraded!  I was seriously impressed with the elaborate photoshoots and beautiful spreads.

Anyone read Korean?

UPDATE:  A lovely reader translated this for me in the comments below.. I think the text going from English to Korean back to English, a few things got lost in translation, but I think you can get the gist of it.

Happy Birthday, Kiersten!

Happy Birthday to the other 1/2 of THERSIC and to our older brother, Justin (yes, they’re 5 yrs apart, but share a birthday)!

Just make sure not to give her any ‘Play & Learn’ puzzles this year
